Product brief:
After spending decades developing acoustic insulation and sound deadening packs for automotive manufacturers, so their fantastically designed new cars do not annoy the occupants with any harsh road noise! We set out to developed a specialist car sound deadening material which is guaranteed to impress!
Working with UK Manufacturers we designed the sound deadening products weight, thickness and width, whilst tailoring a previously proven exterior grade cover film to enable the sound deadening product to be ultra-flexible, lightweight and high performance.
We are very happy with the results!
Why should I fit car sound deadening to my car?
A new car is fitted with varying quantities and specifications of soundproofing and sound deadening materials dependent upon the models overall characteristics which have been specified by the design team. Over the years what was deemed to be a refined car a few years ago is now apparently loud and harsh, yet functionally fine. This is due to several factors including continuous improvement actions of car manufacturers to make their vehicles more refined every year and certain components going through wear and tear stages. Whilst the car is functionally fine, there is always the option to fit after market sound deadening materials to reduce cabin noise and dampen panels. As a vehicle is developed on a cost, weight and performance basis to meet vehicle emission requirements adding the right sound deadening material can make a huge difference, even surpassing the acoustic performance of high value vehicles, thus, providing you with a peaceful comfort whilst driving and potentially adding re-sale value to your vehicle when you come to sell it.
Which areas should I use car sound deadening and where will lead to the best acoustic results?
Speaking from experience, and knowing how cars are manufactured (especially the acoustic products) after having the pleasure of visiting many production lines. There are four main areas I would focus on.
FLOORPAN
DOORS
BONNET
WHEELARCHES
The first (floorpan) is generally most difficult if you haven't subscribed your car to have a complete refit or refurbishment. As the carpet is usually the first to be fitted after the electronic cabling. It usually means, seats out and please do your research on your model, as sometimes it can mean the whole dash assembly needs to be removed! This is usually a very complex process which I wouldn't recommend because on some assembly lines there are machines to assist the production operatives to fit them in.
If you decide to remove the carpet, you will want to install a great car sound deadening product which is great thermally and acoustically without adding too much thickness and is easy to form around complex geometry. This is where we recommend ButylMAT due to its specialised cover film which only uses a 20 micron aluminium layer and is strengthened with a UV stable filmic barrier. This sound deadening product will add 3Kg/m2 and is only 1.7mm thick and is specifically developed to not tear and cut you whilst fitting it. Simply clean down the surfaces with a cleaner suitable for painted surfaces and please use the following steps as a guide to installing the sound deadening.
Ensure the area is empty of automotive components, then measure the approximate area to be covered in car sound deadening.
Measure out the car sound deadening after evaluating the optimal pattern to fit it.
Peel off easy release backing on the ButylMAT to install the sound deadening material
It is recommended to carry out this task 200-300mm at a time so that you do not get any folds in the fitment of the car sound deadening.
BONNET:
When Installing car sound deadening under the bonnet it is recommended to apply the sound deadening behind the existing bonnet liner.
WHEEL ARCHES:
ButylMAT also bonds to most plastics including UPVC so you can fit this car sound deadening product onto existing plastic wheel arch components whilst deadening the metal panels in the area of the wheel arches. ButylMAT car sound deadening is also waterproof and developed to be an exterior grade car sound deadening product!
DOORS:
Repeat the process above for the doors, remember it is usually beneficial to have the window in the up position prior to installing the car sound deadening material to the door area.
